Jul. 13th, 2010 10:52 amMe: a beta of STO's next update has been pushed to their public test server
armageddon_lady: spiffy ^_^
Me: it has stuff that makes it feel more Trekkish ^^ see, now there's a "Federation Diplomatic Corps" that you can rise through the ranks in by completing diplomacy and first contact missions. These missions are non-combat; in one I tried, I had to prove that the Vulcans were framed for a threat against a Romulan ambassador's life, and thus save the peace process. Felt very TNG ^^ plus, exploration is being enhanced in certain ways. I'm excited about this because, while I loved the game as it was, it did feel like it had too much combat and not enough of everything else. So, yeah :)
armageddon_lady: coolness ^_^
Me: Klingons are getting new stuff too, and I'm eager to try that. 'course, I'm fine with Klingons being mostly combat-focused ^^ 'cause that's kinda their thing

Also, is it free, or is there a fee?

Date: 2010-07-14 04:36 am (UTC)I honestly prefer this to most free-to-play models -- often, the game is "free" but you have to pay an arm and a leg to actually achieve anything. I'd rather pay a flat fee than have to pay out the nose to advance through the game, you know?
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing STO go free-to-play with the Dungeons & Dragons Online model (where you basically get the important stuff free but can level faster if you buy the store items). (DDO is fun, by the way ^^)
Anyway, if you ever get a computer that can run STO, let me know and I'll get you a referral key that'll let you play the demo, as well as give us special abilities and bonuses when we play together for the first few days. ^^ (Full disclosure -- I get stuff for referring you.)
